CST Series 2 Velitrium: Redlun Manor
Player: Duke, Tacit
PC: Athamar, Jacinta
Missiledine: Well, after yo complete your
tour of the manor house, you return to the
village to eat, drink and make merry
Dukejr01: okay. any roleplaying you want to
do with the Vintner's family?
Missiledine: Athamar will dine with the
Vintner, as will Gallus and the Twins.
Everyone else will eat with the common
folk, you mostly talk buisness. He seems to
know his
Dukejr01: okay. Vintner has two sons? any
cousins etc? also, he discusses the
vinyards and possible expansion.
Missiledine: `just him, his two sons. Both
are of age to be married soon
Dukejr01: possible to make alcoholic
beverages out of the fruits of the orchards?
Missiledine: where do you plan on
spending the night? Tents? Manor house?
Missiledine: Absolutely! Applejack!
Dukejr01: peach schnapps.
Dukejr01: age it and sell it for a premium.
tacit01: Thunderbird!
Missiledine: Mad Dog!
Dukejr01: Athamar will stay in the manor.
he sets up a cot in the main bedroom.
Missiledine: Cot? You mean bedroll
Dukejr01: Athamr lets Gallus chose his
room next. then the sibs.
tacit01: Jacinta will stay in the stable
Missiledine: Ok, well everyone can more or
less find floor space
Dukejr01: okay. bedroll. before going to
bed, he is going to investigateh te tower
and dungeon.
tacit01: oh, in that case - indoors!
Missiledine: oooh! Nice of you
Missiledine: The tower is locked, but you
have a key
Missiledine: Are you going alone?
Dukejr01: yes. I have one of my hauscarls
with me.
Missiledine: who?
Dukejr01: hmm.... Miklas.
Missiledine: ok
Dukejr01: Ollyn can spend time with his ife.
Dukejr01: wife. that is important, you know.
Missiledine: yeah, I know
Dukejr01: Athamar opens the door, and
casts Light. sends the light on ahead of him
so that it illuminates the path ahead of his
cont light.
Missiledine: ok, tower first
Missiledine: the door opens into an
antechamber type area that then spreads
out into a large circular room
Missiledine: The air is thick with dust and
you see cobwebs all over the place
Dukejr01: murder hole in the ceiling?
Missiledine: the central area is cluttered
with a pile of furniture and junk, to your left
is a ramp going up, spiraling along the
outerwall
Missiledine: yes
Dukejr01: k. Athamr prods the floor ahead
of him carefully with his staff and then steps
into the room.
Missiledine: across the chamber, under the
up ramp, is another ramp that leads down
Missiledine: the floor is flag stone
Missiledine: nothing untoward occurs
Dukejr01: okay. he approachesthe pile of
stuff and looks at it without touching it.
Missiledine: right
Missiledine: the pile appears to be
furniture, a couple old chests, tapestries,
etc
Dukejr01: hmmph. tapestries motheaten
and useless?
Missiledine: hard to say just looking at the
pile
Dukejr01: k. we can investigate that later.
Dukejr01: go down the steps.
Missiledine: up or down?
Missiledine: down
Missiledine: The ramp spirals down into
another chamber, also round, that has a
large table set in the center. The table is
covered with a variety of dusty shrouded
shapes
Dukejr01: hmm... Athamar sends the light
on over there.
Missiledine: as you walk you feel glass
crunching under foot.... The light sends
something scuttling away
Dukejr01: check out the floor.
Missiledine: Off to one side is a jumble of
broken wood
Dukejr01: then prob the wood with the staff.
Dukejr01: probe.
Missiledine: It appears that there is
numerous pieces of broken glassware on
the floor
Missiledine: mostly buried in a couple
inches of dust
Dukejr01: step mroe carefully. scuff it aside
beforesetting down foot.
Dukejr01: any wall brackets?
Missiledine: When you probe the wood
pile, something long, white and sinuous
glides out, crosses a few feet and
disappears into a crack in the floor
Missiledine: torch sconces
Dukejr01: one of them gets a Cont light.
Missiledine: you realise that it was a
centipede almost as big as your arm
Dukejr01: I will be using shape stone a lot
in this room.
tacit01: <now THAT'S a centipede>
Missiledine: you realise with a start, that
this jumble of broken wood was a
powerstone recharging rack
Missiledine: its trash now
Dukejr01: wow! shit, its broken.
Dukejr01: migh still be useful salvage.
Dukejr01: previous occupant was a mage
so we had better be careful.
Missiledine: It was clearly to big and
delicate to move, but it wasn't going to be
left behind either
Dukejr01: okay. approach the table. use
staff to remove cloth
Missiledine: As you do you knock over
some glassware under the cloth
Dukejr01: damn. use gloved hands. try to
be more careful
Missiledine: Pulling aside the cover, you
see an assoirtment of glassware that an
alchemist might employ
Dukejr01: neat. look under the table.
Missiledine: some of it is broken, but a lot
of it is still in one piece
Missiledine: cobwebs and dust is very thick
under here
Dukejr01: back up and send light
underneath
Missiledine: a couple bugs skitter away, but
nothing else is noted
Dukejr01: okay,. any other features to this
room?
Missiledine: not that you note
Dukejr01: okay. we will explore this area in
greater detail later.
Dukejr01: go upstairs.
Missiledine: ok
Missiledine: The upper floor is basicly
empty. There is a ladder giving access to
the roof and a number of empty weapon
racks
Dukejr01: ladder sound?
Missiledine: Hmm, hard to tell
Dukejr01: well, we try one rung at a time.
Dukejr01: bounce up and down a bit on the
first rung
Missiledine: ok.... It creaks a bit with each
step, but it is holding
Dukejr01: okay. go on up
Missiledine: There is a heavy looking trap
door at top. It has a massive iron bolt that is
shot through its keepers
Dukejr01: okay,. Athamr will let someone
else screw around with this.
Dukejr01: he goes down.
Missiledine: Brave, aren't we
Dukejr01: Athamar is going to get a new
ladder first.
Missiledine: ah
Missiledine: now what?
Dukejr01: go down to the dungeon.
Missiledine: ok
Missiledine: the steps are in a small room
off the great hall
Missiledine: They lead down to a big area,
about 50' x 30' the center has an enormous
pile of furniturs, boxes, assorted junk
Dukejr01: okay. any exits?
Missiledine: yes, to your right is a set of
double doors, closed, to your right, same
wall as the steps, is an iron door also
closed, and to your right, across the room
is
a set of iron gates
Dukejr01: okay. doors first
Missiledine: the double ones?
Dukejr01: yes.
Missiledine: locked
Dukejr01: any of the keys work?
Missiledine: a few moments trying them
and yes, you unlock the doors
Dukejr01: make mental note of which keys
Missiledine: Looking in you sees a 30' x 30'
room that is lined with barrels and has
racks of barrels in the center... Its a wine
cellar.
Dukejr01: okay. Athamar walks in.
Missiledine: there is another exit from this
room, a ramp that runs upwards to a set of
angled, double doors that you surmise
open into the courtyard
Dukejr01: okay. look up them to confirm
that, then return to close and lock the doors.
Missiledine: from the dust and cobwebs,
these barrels haven't been touched for
years
Dukejr01: okay. Athamar won;t personally
look in them now. they will keep.
Missiledine: ok
Dukejr01: <am playing my Lord-type
charactor.>
Missiledine: I can tell
Dukejr01: check the gates next
Missiledine: ok, the gates allow you to look
through to a hallway, perhaps 12' wide and
twentyfive feet long
Missiledine: It is lined with three doors on
either side of the hall. At the end is another
set of gates and a chamber beyond
Dukejr01: hmmm... holding cells and
interrogation room. Athamar will unlock the
gate, and check it all out.
Missiledine: the gates are locked
Missiledine: you find the right key.
Missiledine: Each of the doors are locked
as well, there are small sliding windows that
allow you to look in
Dukejr01: just so you know. one of these
days. Athamar will supervise a bunch of
servants to clean allthis out.
Dukejr01: slide away. send light in....
Missiledine: 'ok
Dukejr01: I could jsut see some
necromancy using bastid leaving a few
animated dead down here to surprise the
new tenants.
Missiledine: the light goes in, illuminating a
room about 6' wide and maybe 12' deep.
You see chains on the wall and a skeletal
remains of someone
Dukejr01: k, go one to the next cell
Dukejr01: one = on.
Missiledine: each is identical in dimension,
but yo only see remains inb three of them
Dukejr01: okay. we will have some more
troops with us when we clear them out, and
then give the remains a proper burial.
Missiledine: ok
Missiledine: the next set of gates are also
locked
Dukejr01: unsend light in first.
Dukejr01: send
Missiledine: ok, the area beyond is about
30' wide and maybe 15' deep. You see
what appears to be empty weapon racks
along the walls and a table with benches
in one corner. There is another door
opposite the gates
Dukejr01: unlick the gates and step in.
briefly look at racks and table. then look at
door.
Missiledine: the racks and table appear
normal and empty, tho something catches
the light on the floor under the table
Dukejr01: send light closer, then look closer
Missiledine: You see a dusty old silver
goblet
Dukejr01: huh. cool. magic?
Missiledine: badly tarnished... Not that you
can tell without picking it up
Dukejr01: prod it with the staff. withthe
apparent access of the old Lord to magic.
Athamar is wary of magical traps.
Missiledine: nothing happens
Dukejr01: okay. the staff actsas the mages
touch. can he tell if its magic?
Missiledine: no magic
Dukejr01: okay. he picks it up and looks at
it.
Missiledine: it has the crest of the previous
occupants on it
Dukejr01: i figured.... :-)
Dukejr01: he sets it on the table. door.
Missiledine: again, the door is locked
Dukejr01: find a key
Missiledine: Heavy oak
Missiledine: ok, its one of several still
unaccounted for
Missiledine: The door hasn't been opened
in ages, and the inside is thick with
cobwebs
Dukejr01: okay. well, A picks up the goblet
and returns to the main room. locking every
door and gate on the way back.
Missiledine: The room beyond appears to
be 25' deep and 30' wide
Missiledine: ok
Dukejr01: oh. there is a peep hole?
Missiledine: no
Dukejr01: k.
Dukejr01: Iron door next.
Missiledine: from your sense of direction,
limited tho it is, this should open into the old
keep
Missiledine: its locked
Dukejr01: k. I assume its locked
Dukejr01: lol,. okay is there a key?
Missiledine: yes
Dukejr01: open it up
Missiledine: it opens into a dark 25' x 25'
chamber that is thick with dust and
cobwebs
Dukejr01: send in the light spell
Missiledine: the center has another pile of
junk, but there are no other doors
Dukejr01: okay. well, sorry to be boring, but
its close to A's bedtime, and there are not
enough hands to start cleaning this place
up, so, he locks this up again and
returns upstairs.
Missiledine: ok
Dukejr01: a more thorough investigation
will occur.
Missiledine: still the one room to finish
looking at
Dukejr01: oh. sorry. do so.
Dukejr01: I missed one <scrolling>
Missiledine: past the room where you found
the goblet
Missiledine: Missiledine: The room beyond
appears to be 25' deep and 30' wide
Dukejr01: I thought that there was no key for
that.
Missiledine: no, you opened it
Dukejr01: oh. okay/ send the light in there,
then
Missiledine: lot of bulky looking equipment
shrouded with cobwebs and dust
Missiledine: Its a torture chamber
Dukejr01: okay. go in and inspect the
torture chamber
Missiledine: has all the usuals... rack,
stocks, cages, braziers, branding irons,
iron boot.... etc
Dukejr01: whee!
Dukejr01: any remains?
Missiledine: no
Missiledine: not that you see
Dukejr01: k, exits?
Dukejr01: open the Iron maiden,
Missiledine: no exits
Missiledine: The iron maiden is locked
Dukejr01: any of the keys work?
Missiledine: no
Dukejr01: k, send the light in the eyehole
Missiledine: something in there!
Missiledine: Miklas is looking a little pale
Dukejr01: "How cute." Athamar shakes his
head.
Missiledine: "My Lord?"
Dukejr01: "I was being facetious. My great
uncle was a terible human being."
Dukejr01: Athamar looks closer.
Missiledine: Miklas nods in agreement
Dukejr01: "We will give these poor souls a
decent burial. But not now, lets return."
Missiledine: "Yes, My Lord."
Dukejr01: okay. loch the place up as we go.
Dukejr01: lock
Missiledine: ok
Dukejr01: Athamar goes upstairs. anyone
else about?
Missiledine: a few people are still
wandering about, laying out bedrolls,
bringing in firewood etc
Dukejr01: k. Athamar releases Miklas. if
Gallus, Nordan, or Bragan are about, he
talks to them.
Missiledine: no sign of Gallus, but you can
find Nordan and Bragan and Jacinta
Dukejr01: okay. AThamar hands Nordan
the goblet for safekeeping. and advises
him about the large vermin about.
Missiledine: He nods his understanding
Dukejr01: "Bragan. A word..."
Missiledine: Bragan follows you
Dukejr01: "It seems the previous occupants
had a mage about. there is a lab with a
destroyed powerstone rack and a table
with alchemical equipment. We will take
a look tomorrow.
Missiledine: He rubs his hands gleefully
Dukejr01: "There was also a centipede as
long as my arm down there. we are going
to have to exercise a bit of care. Still, we
should investigate that as soon as
possible."
Missiledine: "Absolutely!" He agrees
Dukejr01: "First, we should get the poor
wretches remains in the basement a proper
interment. IF you can restrain your
enthusiasm, We will take a close look
tomorrow evening."
Missiledine: He nods, albeit reluctantly, "Of
course."
Dukejr01: "Did your equipment survive the
journey well?"
Missiledine: "I haven't really begun
checking it. I don't want to unpack until I
know where it will be set up permenantly."
Dukejr01: "hmmmm... well, looks like the
place they have in the tower basement is a
pretty good place. secure and roomy. or
would you prefer someplace separate
from the manor?"
Missiledine: "No, that would be fine."
Dukejr01: "I hate to make you wait. But I
have a lot to do tomorrow. give us all a
chance to look tour the village and manor."
Missiledine: "Uhm, okay." He seems
disappointed
Dukejr01: Athamr grins. "Believe me, your
lab is a priority. Getting everyone a proper
bed and a roof over everyone is first,
though." He claps him on the sholder. "I
can;t wait to tear through that place. the
dust is a couple inches thick, and the
vermin are nasty. A lot of work there.
Missiledine: I hope to have the plans re
scanned, cropped etc and emailed by the
end of the weekend
Missiledine: He laughs and agrees, "Of
course."
Dukejr01: "Goodnight, my friend"
Missiledine: Bragan plans on spending the
night outside with the stuff!
Missiledine: Good night, Lord Redlun!
Dukejr01: Okay. Athamar looks everything
over. then prepars for bed.
Missiledine: everything seems ok
Dukejr01: allright,. I assume its bedtime.
Missiledine: people are settling in,
temporarily
Missiledine: almost 11pm
Dukejr01: he goes to bed. Bosco can sleep
with him.
Missiledine: :-)
tacit01: <Bosco? a dog, I presume>
Dukejr01: you knew that, troy
Dukejr01: any centipedes <bedbugs> bite?
Missiledine: I'm sure that given time you
can find some village maid to do that for
you
Missiledine: no, the room has been
cleaned, but it still takes you awhile to settle
down
Missiledine: being in a new place, etc
Dukejr01: k. yeah. he lets bosco check out
the room. and watches the fire for awhile.
Missiledine: The dog will prowl around a
bit, but eventually settles down
Dukejr01: cool. scratch his head and go to
sleep then.
Missiledine: ok
tacit01: <zzz>
Dukejr01: right. everyone live in the
morning?
Dukejr01: alive?
Missiledine: uhmm, let me make a couple
dice rolls to see
tacit01: <aak>
Dukejr01: oop ack
Missiledine: <Sigh> Everyone is alive in the
morning
Dukejr01: okay. busy day. Athamar advises
Gallus of what he found int he tower and
basement.
Missiledine: hang on a sec Dave, brb
Dukejr01: okie doke.
tacit01: <yawn, stretch> <feed the horses>
Missiledine: ok, sorry about that
Dukejr01: np
Missiledine: Gallus says he'll put together a
couple work parties to start dragging
everything, and everyone, outside
Dukejr01: good. the tower is offlimits. I want
that to be the pervue of trusted retainers for
now.
Missiledine: He suggests that you send for
the Friar for when the bodies are brought
out
Dukejr01: yes. precisely
Missiledine: he aknowledges your order
concerning the tower
Dukejr01: "The evidence of a mage's
presence concerns me somewhat. I will
want armed retainers when we drag out the
bodies.
Missiledine: he nods in agreement
Dukejr01: "I think that in the interest of
decency. we should put the unfortuante
victims to rest first, but the next priority is
getting permanent roof over everyone's
head. "
Dukejr01: This morning we will advise the
Friar and retrieve the bodies. perhaps
transportation should be arranged for him.
Missiledine: "As you wish."
Dukejr01: okay. can we assume that done
or is there excitement?
Missiledine: no, it goes quietly enough.
Nothing rises from the grave
tacit01: <darn>
Missiledine: The Friar will say the funeral
rites and shake his head sadly
Missiledine: "I wish we knew who they
were."
Dukejr01: Athamar shares his sentiment.
Dukejr01: okay. Athamar locks up the
basement again, after, whatever is down
there will keep a few more weeks. getting
the manor livable takes priority
Missiledine: The service will be completed
quickly, but the Friar looks concerned
Dukejr01: "Friar?"
Missiledine: "My Lord, as I'm sure you
know, it is the custom for family or friends to
stand guard over a new grave for three
days and three nights. In a big temple
there are Sacarium Guards to stand the
night shifts.. I'm not sure how we should
resolve this in this case."
Dukejr01: "Hmmm.... Well, I am
responsible, because I am Lord and
because my kin were involved. I will
arrrange the vigil."
Missiledine: "Thank you, My Lord."
Dukejr01: Athamr talks to Ollyn. Athamr
plans to be present this evening, Tassiter
can take a watch.
Missiledine: Ollyn is agreeable. tassiter
grumbles but agrees
Dukejr01: okay. we are going to need more
help. especially at night. I figure miklas can
help. Taking volunteers from the troops a
good idea?
Missiledine: sure, however there are a few
conditions.... Did I post this file on the site?
I can't remember
Dukejr01: i think so, i can't remember the
details. I think hired gueards need pay and
food.
Missiledine: yep, no meat, vegetables and
fruit
Missiledine: just, veggies and fruit
Dukejr01: okay. well, Athamar will
personally stand watch the first evening.
Tasseter can stand watch this afternoon.
tacit01: did A ask for volunteers or not?
Dukejr01: yes.
Missiledine: ok, some of the villagers will
cover the day watch. They may be relatives
after all
Missiledine: yes
Dukejr01: good. nice to see people pull
together in times like this. Athamar will see
to it everyone who volunteers gets a bite to
eat, whatever their watch. rather
Athamr has Nordan do it.
Missiledine: ok
tacit01: J acinta volunteers, if she is not
needed elsewhere
Dukejr01: okay
Dukejr01: well, now that that is dealt with.
we should tour the village and look for the
best places for new houses to be built
Missiledine: well guys, I'm sorry but its 1:15
here
