Series 1 GM POST # 1
Player : Clonus
Character: Endor Haskil
START:
Endor: Six days ago you were summoned by Abbot Beal, of the monastary in Velitrium City, where you have recently been Ordained. He entrusted you with a leather messanger pouch which was sealed, but clearly contained three scroll tubes. He explained that these were copies of an important theological treatise that needed to be delivered to Abbot Arien of Lendale monastary. Abbot Beal has arranged for you to travel with a caravan of merchants that are heading to Drunmore through Lendale. You are to deliver the papers to Abbot Arlan and then place yourself at his disposal. You will be assigned to Lendale Temple, which Abbot Arian oversees, until further notice.
The merchants are friendly, they seem to all be Mitraen and are grateful to have a Priest to accompany them, though there is no great risk traveling from Velitrium to Drunmore. The roads are well traveled and heavily
patroled. Still, anything can happen. Highway men are not unknown, though in this area they are not present in enough force to challenge a caravan of fifteen merchants and guards. Lacking a horse, the merchants allow you to ride in one of the freight wagons.
Normally the journey should take maybe five days, even allowing for the slow wagons. The roads are good and the streams are bridged. But the merchants make frequent stops, at towns, villages, even lone farmsteads, to conduct buisness and exchange gossip. You won't arrive in Lendale before the evening of the seventh day.
As obligated you make your way immediately to the office of Abbot Arlan. He welcomes you and offers you a light supper of cheese, fruit, bread and wine. The monks have already supped so this is the best (free) meal you'll get. As you eat he peruses the parchments and asks you about news from the Capital. When you have finished, he courteously escorts you to a guest chamber for the night. He tells you that tomorrow is the opening of the Harvest Faire and a busy day for everyone. He invites you to spend the day visiting the faire and familiarizing yourself with the town. The next day he will arrange for your chambers and duties at the temple. Until then he bids you good night.
You are woken early, before dawn, by the call to prayers. After the morning rituals you breakfast with the monks, a meal of breads and fruit, before leaving to explore the faire and town. It is a bit after seven am when you
pass through the monastary gates. The monastary shares a common wall with the town's defenses and there is a gate that allows direct access from the monastary to the streets. It is closed at night but stands open all day.
Tis the time of the Harvest Festivals! Throughout the Kingdom the towns and villages are at the peak of the harvest and with it the great week long festival that celebrates the harvest, gives thanks for its fruits and provides the opportunity for the farmers to sell their surplus to the various merchants and caravans that travel from faire to faire looking for the best deals and finest products. Of course this is not the only chance the farmers have to sell their produce, there are weekly farm markets in virtually every town and village of any size, but this is the last big
chance of the year and there are more buyers now than at anytime in the growing season. Even the desert
barbarians time their caravans to coincide with this period. The stalls and stands are overflowing with fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, ciders, cheeses, eggs and all manner of summer and fall produce. The stock pens are
filled with fat hogs and plump sheep, born last spring and now ready to market. Beside the fresh produce are smoked hams, strings of sausage, sides of bacon and salted beef and mutton. With these are bundles of sheepskins and newly tanned leather, bales of flax to be processed into thread and cloth. The marketplace is also full of stalls peddling finished wares. Everything imaginable can be found for sale, from axes to yarn. Clothing, tools, weapons, toys for the children, wines, beer, spices even slaves, sold by owners who
don't want to feed them through the winter. The farmers have already stocked up on the food stuffs they'll need for the winter, laid in a supply of seed for the spring and are now looking to turn the fruits of their labors into some hard cash with which to buy a few luxuries to make the long winter a little more bearable.
The next big market festival will be in the spring, that one will feature more finished products, the leather will have been turned into harness and shoes. The flax into cord and cloth, the fruit processed into wine. The spring is also the time of the great wool markets, though a few bales of wool can still be had during the Harvest Festivals.
For now though, it is Harvest time. The fields are alive with laborers, the roads crowded with laden farm carts and long, dusty caravans from all over Velitrium and the exotic desert cities. Around the towns and larger
villages, virtual cities of tents and stalls spring up. Vast corrals are laid out, to hold the livestock for market and the horses, mules and oxen of the farmers and caravans. The air is alive with excitement as merchants, farmers and craftsmen hawk and haggle. The Jongeleurs sing and act, performing street magic and drawing crowds in odd corners and in the taverns. Every tavern in the town will have set up temporary quarters on the
fairegrounds, ranging in complexity from push carts with a barrel of beer, to full tents with tables, benches and a bar. Children run from stall to stall, gawking at the wares, clustering around the performers, sometimes selling
apples or candied fruits from small wagons, often times doing nothing more than getting in the way.
Not everyone is here to do buisness. Many come to browse, shop and socialize. There are games and contests to watch, gamble on and participate in. Archery and crossbow shoots are popular, as are wrestling, boxing,
tournament fights, horseracing and animal fights.
We are in the the town of Lendale in the County of Lendale in the Duchy of Argentas. The town is the Count's Seat, or palace and as such it has the largest faire in the county. The faire will last three days and though set
up began yesterday and a lot of buisness has already been transacted, today is the official first day. Count Dumain will announce the opening at eight o'clock. Everybody who is anybody in the County will be here today.
The neighboring Counts and the Barons of those villages large enough to have their own faires, make a point of coordinating their faire dates so as not to give undo competition, its bad for buisness and it makes it possible to
attend more than one in a season!

PC POST# 1
Endor Haskill:
Endor leaves his pack, weapons (Except for his staff) and armor in his sleeping chamber. He brushes up his robes so as to look his best for the day. When he exits the monastary, after greeting any who are watching the gate, he stops on the street, takes in the lay of the land and decides where the center of activity is, then heads for it.
Endor will make apoint of greeting and saluting anyone who looks my way. He takes extra time with any children. He's going to be ministering to these people so he needs to get to know them. He also makes a mental
note of the various buildings, buisnesses, craftsmen and all. Where they are located and what is available.)
Arriving at the fair Endor makes his way (slowly) through the crowds, studying the stands and goods, chatting with any who are willing about the weather, the days evetnts the contents of the stands and all that.

GM POST# 2
Character: Endor Haskil
As you stroll around you can see that the crowd is moving towards the center of the faire grounds. From what you can overhear the Count, his family and a passel of notables are arriving in all their finery Although it is not
unusual to see any one of these notables out and about their daily buisness, it is unusual to see so many together at once. What they were wearing, who they talked to, how they acted will be a source of gossip through the winter months, so everyone wants to see.
Although the offical functions have yet to start most of the important people are already milling about the upper stands. You easily recognize Count Dumain, he is your (new) ruler. And Baron Luden from the Barony of Ebon a part of the County. Listening to others around you, alloows you to pick out Count Lysander of Auratas, a county to the north and Count Varrius of Neus which lies north and west of Lendale. Others up there include several Barons from Neuss and Auratas. In addition the the above mentioned nobles, who are prominently to the front, you can also see milling about up there people you surmise are members of Count Dumian's family, several
merchant types (judging from their clothing) and several Priests of Mitra, one of whom you know, Abbot Arlan
As the event begins to organise, the Abbot will step to the front to give a blessing and open the ceremony. The crowd quiets down as the Priest raises his hands. Even the Druidic followers settle down respectfully.
Father Arlan is well known in the community and well liked by most everyone, even the non believers. The Abbot begins the prayer, calling the Blessings of Mitra down on the Faithful and giving thanks for the harvest. The Abbot is a long winded speaker and drones on for a full twenty minutes. As he finally winds down he bows to Count Dumain and steps aside to let the Noble speak. There is a hearty applause as the Count steps forward.
He is regarded as a fair ruler, taxes aren't too high and he is a popular war hero from the Rebellion. The Count begins his speech by welcoming all and sundry, starting with his fellow nobles, then the Priests, merchants and craftsmen. Last but not least he welcomes and thanks the peasants and common people. He talks to great length about the last year and the accomplishments. A new granary, rebuilding the bridges.... etc etc Finally the
ceremony begins winding down. The Count wishes one and all a happy and prosperous faire.
As the speeches wind out and the real buisness gets started, the crowd begins dispersing in different directions throughout the faire grounds.

PC POST# 2
Endor Haskill
Endor will follow the crowd to where the action is. When he sees who is up on the stage (The Abbot) he will move in near the platform in the hopes that the Abbot sees him and makes introductions after the ceremony.
When the prayers and incantations begin he will contribute his voice and efforts, when and where it is appropriate. Again, he will smile and appropriately and politely greet any and all who acknowledge him. When the crowd begins to disperse he will continue with this, while keeping one eye on what is happening on the platform.

GM POST# 3
Endor Haskill
A number of people will smile, nod politely, bow slightly, etc while passing you. Other than a couple `Good Morning, Father' type salutations, no one speaks to you. The Abbot seems to be engrossed in conversation with
one of the Barons and Count Dumain's wife.

PC POST# 3
Endor Haskill
Endor will stay close to the platform, returning greetings and being polite, but keeping an eye, without being obvious, on the Abbot.

Endor Haskill
Father Arlan pauses in his conversation and looks around, scanning the dispersing crowd. His eyes fall on you and he raises his finger with a 'come hither' gesture. Once he is satisfied that you have seen hm, he returns to
his conversation.

PC POST# 4
Endor Haskill
Endor will bow his head in acknowledgement. He makes his way quickly, but carefully, through the crowd and climbs the steps(?) (GM: Are there guards?) and goes immediately to the Abbot. Bowing politely to any Nobles he may pass in the process. Endor waits patiently to be introduced

GM POST# 5
Endor Haskill
There is a guard at the base of the steps, but he will allow a Priest to pass. (There are at least a dozen other church officials milling about the platform.) Because there are so many Priests, no one pays any particular
attention to you . Arriving at the Abbot's side, you wait respectfully for his attention. You are not sure who the Abbot is talking to, you assume it is the Count's wife and one of his Barons.

GM POST# 6
Endor Haskill
Abbot Arlan extends a hand and places it on your sleeve, drawing you into the conversation, "My Lady Norleen, Baron Luden, this is Father Endor. He is newly arrived from the City (The City is always the Capitol = Velitrium) He has been assigned to our Temple."
Both the Nobles respond politely. Lady Norleen speaks first, "Welcome to Lendale, Father. I hope our time with us will be pleasant." Lady Norleen is probably in her forties, a tall, handsome woman with dark hair and grey eyes. She carries herself well and excudes confidence and charisma. Her smile seems genuine and she appears pleased to meet you.
Baron Luden on the other hand, though polite enough, clearly has little patience with such ritualized courtesies. He is a big, grizzled man, rather gruff and unpolished. Lady Norleen watches his manner with affectionate amusement. "A pleasure, Father." The Baron rumbles shortly.

PC POST# 6

Endor bows deeply to Lady Norleen, "The pleasure is mine, My Lady. I have only been in town for a short while, butwhat I have seen is beautiful and charming."
Turning to the Baron, "My Lord Baron, an honor, sir."

The Abbot seems pleased, as though you have passed some unstated test. "Lord Luden, Father Endor is the Priest I was referring to when I said that I had the perfect man for the job."
The Baron looks at you again, it is a calculating gaze, as though he is assessing your mettle. "Hmmm." He gives a non-committal grunt.
"Father Endor, please attend me this evening," The Abbot says. "We will be dining with the Baron, Count Dumain and Lady Norleen. There is a matter to be disscussed."

PC POST#9
Endor Haskill
Endor will spend the day walking the town's streets, familiarizing himself with what is present and where. He will make an effort to introduce himself to any members of the Watch or Count's retainers that he should encounter.
Also any obvious shop owners, craftsmen, guild types and such.

GM POST#10
Endor Haskill
The town is full up, it is difficult to determine who really belongs here and who is just visiting, but you do meet a handful of those that seem to be town regulars.
The day progresses and you start feeling hungry. You can eat at the fair, one of the inn/taverns in town, or you can return to the Abbey and eat for free.
PBEM Series 1
PC POST#10
Endor Haskill
Endor will try one of the inns in town. He needs to get to know his congregation. He looks for a respectable one, something that is in keeping with his station, not some hole that the adventurer scumbags visit.

GM POST#11

One tavern catches your eye, the 'Leaping Stag.' It seems to be the haunt of the more respectable type of merchant, judging by the clientel you see through the door.

Endor will enter. Is there anyplace to sit?

GM POST#12
Endor Haskill
It is pretty crowded, but as you enter the inn keeper comes out from behind his bar and hurries to greet you. Smiling welcomingly he bows slightly, "Father, it is an honor to have a man of the cloth with us. Please,
come this way and I wiull find you a seat."
He leads you around the center of the room to the far side where there are still several open tables. "Would you prefer a seat by the fire or the window? And a glass of wine perhaps? A fine vintage I promise." He asks anxiously.
PBEM Series 1
PC POST#12
Endor Haskill
Endor lets him lead on, smiling and nodding to those who acknowledge him. "The window, please. And yes, a
glass of wine would be very nice, thank you good sir." Endor will sit so he can look out the window to one side and see the room and door to the other. (If possible.)
PBEM Series 1
GM POST#13
Endor Haskill
Well, the window gives pleasant light, but it looks out at an alley. Normally the view would be pretty quiet, but
because of the crowds there is a lot of foot traffic. And no, you can't see the entrance into the tavern area, you crossed the room and moved out to one side, to the right, out of line of sight of the door. You CAN see the bar, the main dining floor, the fireplace and the curtained doorway back to the kitchen area. (You presume that is
what is back there, servers keep coming through the curtain with trays of food.)
The innkeep will hold your chair and seat you, promising to return forthwith.

Uhm, ok. Endor sits so he can watch the bar/kitchen doorway to one side and the window to the other.

(Hah! What makes you think your anybody! :))
The tavern seems to be full of merchant types, mostly working deals or talking about deals they just made or would like to make. If you were in the market for horses, pig iron, barley, vinegar or annest roots you
might hear something of interest. After about three minutes the inn keep returns with a glass of wine. "What
might you desire for your repast, Father? I am roasting several fine ducks and some grouse. There is also a fat
suckling pig ready to be served, as well as several soups and stews."

Shortly after you finish readying yourself there is a knock at your door. Opening it, you find a young monk, actually a monk in training. A boy of about 14. He bows slightly, "Your Reverence, I am Initate Joel. I am here to escort you to the Abbot."
Joel will lead you out a postern gate where the Abbot and two Sacarium Guards are waiting. The boy bows and leaves quietly.
