Missiledine: Okay, everyone has descended, via ladders, to the main floor of the old mine. You appear to be alone at the moment
Dukejr01: "circle the room in pairs. Look for a exits. especially a stone door or secret way"
Docportal: I will move with Dawn and check the room out.
Dukejr01: Corren circles the room counterclockwise. he inspects the walls and floor
Missiledine: The walls are not smooth and regular, they are rough, unfinished with many inlets and depressions, both at floor level and well above your heads
Dukejr01: check for tracks in the dust
Missiledine: the whole area seems well churned up, as thopugh there is much activity down here
Docportal: Use the tourch to look for air moving form the walls. Walk slowly around the room with it.
Dukejr01: Corren will use the bakside of his axe to tap the walls and search for exits. he suspects a secret or concealed door.
Missiledine: scattered through the center of the room are old piles of rubble, abandoined tools, rotting lumber and decaying carts and barrow
Missiledine: the lower chamber is reamrkably drafty for an area so deep in the earth. The dominant breeze draws upwards, but there is one section of wall where the torch flutters even more then usual when you approach
DawnUnicor: I will look at the pile
Missiledine: There is nothing obvious about the section though

Docportal: "Here is the door." <It works in the buildings I work on.>
Dukejr01: Corren strides over
Missiledine: The piles look like equipment that was abandoned when the mine played out. But one pile reveals itself as a mouldy piece of tarp draped over something, or somethings
DawnUnicor: I will check under the tarp but I am careful
Docportal: I walk over to the pile and look for a pick to use on the door.
Dukejr01: Corren will inspect the door.
Missiledine: under the tarp you find what looks like a foot locker, a lantern/stove a small keg, a couple stools and a folding camp table
Missiledine: Corren and Vance: After some feeling about in the area oif the draft, you determine what seems to be the outlines of a door. It is carefully made and blends into the rock so as to be invisible at more then a yard
Dukejr01: cool. Corren will look for a mechanism.
Missiledine: you are unable to locate any catch or locking mechanism tho
DawnUnicor: dawn will pick up some of the things she sees

Missiledine: the pick Vance finds has been lying untouched for decades. Tho the head is rusty it is still servicable, but the handle is rotted and weak
Docportal: "any body got a staff we can use for a short time?"
Missiledine: Opening the locker you will find some cooking gear, mugs, plates, skillet, a bag of flour, some bacon, beans and cheese. There are two pints of oil, a couple candles, a pouch with some dice in it and a slate and chalk
Dukejr01: Corren will wander over to dawn. he looks things over, unfolds the table. looks for usable tools or a legnth of wood usable for a pick handle

Missiledine: No, no other exits, except the ladder
Dukejr01: Corren snorts. "Good luck crossing the water without a boat i nthe face of a siege crossbow. My dwarven Armour saved my bacon. what you got?"
Dukejr01: Corren applies himself to the door.
Missiledine: "Well, we coould gather the materials to build a raft."
DawnUnicor: "could there be any other door ways we have seen"

Dukejr01: Corren grunts with effort and doesn't reply
Dukejr01: "Could be. Go ahead and look."
Missiledine: "What makes you think there won't be a siege bow on the other side of this door?"
Dukejr01: "There will. but there won;t be a lot of deep water."
DawnUnicor: I look around on the floor walls
Missiledine: Your torch search shoed no other doors on this level. Doesn't mean that they aren't there tho
Missiledine: Dawn, poking around in the odd corners, you will find a bundle of cloth rolled up and thrown aside

Missiledine: Corren, you start hammering away at the door

Missiledine: the cloth appears to be of very good quality, but looks to have been wet when tossed aside. Do you unrioll it?

Missiledine: The cloth is, or was a cloak. But it appears to been made for a child, judging by its size. The detail and stitching shows it to be upper class and there is a large rent in the middle of it

Docportal: "Dawn, you and Long, go up to the next level and use the tourch trick to check for doors up there."
Missiledine: it will take a good dozen blows to bet a leverage point on the door edge, but finally you do

Missiledine: Dawn:Climbing up the ladder to the landing above the main floor, you notice, looking upwards, that the first ladder, from the entrance down, is missing

Docportal: "Well we are stuck here. Unless we open that door." I go to work on the door.
DawnUnicor: go back up and look at floors and walls

Missiledine: The cloth has been lying wet and rolled up in a dank mine for, Mitra knows how long! It smells mouldy. However the cloak clearly was upper class and had a pin to hold it, which is missing. The rent may have been weapon made, hard

Missiledine: Using the remaining long ladder, how many levels do you go up? All the way to the top?

Missiledine: Sliding through the opening, Corren sees about fifteen feet ahead of him an iron gate that is barring the tunnel. The gate is closed and has a thick chain twined through it, locking it

Missiledine: The tunnel beyond widens and splits in two directions. One passage is almost directly opposite the gate, the other is slightly to the left. The passage opposite has a wooden half wall, about four feet high, blocking it. As you

Dukejr01: He will drop the lantern, unlimber shield, and strike at the chain in that order.
Missiledine: ok, Dawn. Your spell goes off...before either man can discharge their crossbow, the both collapse behind the barrier
Dukejr01: "Well done." Corren whispers.
Dukejr01: Corren wil lpry open the chain link rather than strike the chain.
Missiledine: the chain looks pretty thick to hack at with your sword
Dukejr01: inspect it for weaknesses. is it butted? if so use the axe to pry open the link.
Docportal: <Try to drag one of the body closer and look for a key.>

Missiledine: They are too far away and on the otherside of the barricade

Missiledine: the links are butted, but are quite thick
Dukejr01: hmmmm.. put the end of the pick in the link and twist.

Missiledine: it takes a lot of effort, but at last it twists some. A second try opens it enough to slip it loose

Dukejr01: okay. Corren tries to quietly undo the chain.

Missiledine: in the stone tunnels even your careful efforts seem loud! However the noise does not wake the sleeping guards and does not seem to raise an alarm
Dukejr01: open gate and move to the men. Corren signals the rest of hte party. he plans to nab each man in turn, and tie them up. and gag them.
Docportal: I go frist.
Docportal: putting up my sword so I can help.
DawnUnicor: i will go next
Dukejr01: Corren signals Dawn to guard the second man with her sword, while Vance and Corren deal with the first. the elf can guard
DawnUnicor: ok
Docportal: This works
Missiledine: ok, the barricade is actually a heavy, oak plank table laid on its side. The two men, scruffy looking types in scale hauberks and cassis hems, are out cold
Dukejr01: any house colors?
Missiledine: next tpo the men are three siege crossbows, two cocked (the bolts have fallen off tho) and one uncocked)
Dukejr01: Corren and Vance nab the first of them, pinoning his arms and covering his mouth. then we drag him to the side and tie him up and gag him. repeat for the second one.
Missiledine: no, no colors or identification marks. In addition to the crossbows they have broadswords and daggers
Docportal: Take sword and daggers off of them as we move them.
Missiledine: ok... The man awakens as you manhandle him around, but his resisdtence is futile and you soon have him tied.
DawnUnicor has left the room.
Dukejr01: okay. good. disarm him, then do the other, then search them both.
Missiledine: Vance, as you draw the man's broadsword, you notice something odd. It is a single edged design that is popular with fighters from Khun Dhagra.
Dukejr01: Corren grunts at the sight of it.
Docportal: Make note of this and moves on.
Missiledine: The second man puts up more of a struggle, but it's nothing that the two of you can't handle and he is soon trussed up. His blade is similar to the first one
Dukejr01: Search them.
Dukejr01: strip off their armour too. look for identifying marks, tattoes

Missiledine: ok, the unguarded passage opens into a chamber that is cluttered with boxes and barrels etc

Missiledine: There are three windlass laying at hand
Dukejr01: I thought a siege bow's windlass was built in
Missiledine: The Guarded passage leads off downwards, curving to the right as it goes
Missiledine: <Some are, some aren't>
Dukejr01: k. get the ladders inside the gate. close the door. relock the gate using what is left of the chain and the padlock.
Docportal: I pick up one of them an a segie crossbow that is cooked and load it. Then check out the ungarded path.
Missiledine: <Convenience calls for them to be built in, but it adds weight>
Dukejr01: "Good idea. take a look round their lair"
Docportal: 'Yeah and If i see something I put a hole thought it."
Missiledine: the unguarded chamber is an irregular cavern, partially natural, partially carved out. It roughly the shape of a kidney bean and is about 60' long and 20' wide
Docportal: anything in here worth my time?
Dukejr01: Corren busies himself securing the area as specified. he will then check the prisoner's bonds. <let me know when he is caught up>
Missiledine: The center of the area has crates and barrels stacked and scattered about. There does not seem to be anyone in here and there are no lights lit, though there is an oil lamp on a barrel
Docportal: pick up the lamp and step back out in to the light to light it.
Missiledine: ok
Docportal: then re enter the room
Missiledine: (Going back in that chamber?)

Dukejr01: "We should stay in pairs. Take the elf"
Missiledine: Long will follow you in
Docportal: Hand the elf the lamp

Docportal: I look for any think out of the ordany. Things that can open and hide a person it them.
Missiledine: none of the barrels are really huge, but they could hide someone inside. The same is true for some of the crates
Docportal: Keeping an eye onthem if one moves I want to know. Look for secret doors
Missiledine: ok, you prowl around looking for air drafts and such
Docportal: k
Missiledine: After a few minutes searching, you come to the conclusion that there is nothing here
Dukejr01: Corren caught up?

Docportal: I take the elf and myself back to corren and report what little I have find.
Dukejr01: k. Corren will check the prisoners bonds. He grunts at Vance's observations. Then drags one of the prisoners into the chamber,

Docportal: Give the other prisoner evil look.
Dukejr01: Corren props him up against the wall. He grins at Vance for that. "Lets see what he has to say first"
Dukejr01: Corren pulls his gag out and says "What have you got to say for yourself?"
Missiledine: "Who the hell are yoiu!?"
Dukejr01: "The guy asking the questions. You havea Khun blade, why do I get the idea that you aren;t in the employ of the local Lord?"
Docportal: "Him," looking at Corren "is the nice one. Me I am the the one you should worried about!!!"
Missiledine: he looks back and forth between you. "You don't look like locals either."
Dukejr01: Corren grins. "How long have you been hiding down here?"
Missiledine: "Your making a big mistake poking your nose down here." He says. "If you think anyone is gonna thank you or give you a reward, your wrong. Dead wrong."
Dukejr01: "Maybe you should try scaring me some more."
Missiledine: "You have no idea what your messing with! When Lord Shapstone finds out your here, he'll arrest you. What ever is left of you."
Docportal: "Oh so you work for the lord?"
Missiledine: "Yeah, that's right. I do. So unty me right now!"
Docportal: "You got to be out of your mind."
Dukejr01: "What were you protecting down that passageway?"
Missiledine: "Just keeping nosy people like you from muckin about where they don't belong."
Dukejr01: "Suppose you tell me, I am going down that way anyway."
Docportal: "I would suggest you answer or I might just get to use this on you. Now tell us so I can test it on one of your comrads down there, instead of on you."
Docportal: Big evil grin
Missiledine: "You don't want to go down there. If ya do, ya won't be coming back."
Dukejr01: Corren sighs "I don't scare easily. Maybe if you scare me enough, I won't go."
Dukejr01: which is true but Corren is clearly not likely to be disuaded.

Docportal: Look to see if the others are there. and the other prisoner

Missiledine: "How many of us were there, huh? Two, right? How many crossbows? Three, right? So ask yourself this. Where is the third man? Huh? Goin for reinforcements, that's where."
Dukejr01: Corren puts the gag back in his mouth.
Missiledine: "Tough fighter eh? Not tough enough I warrant. Not with that lot down there!"

Docportal: "I want to use my toy now. Harry up with it...."

Missiledine: "You had best cut us loose and surrender. If you go down, you die. You stand and fight, you die. You try and climb out of here, you die."
Docportal: "Well that sounds like fun. Lets start with you frist."
Dukejr01: . Corren plans to drag him and his buddy out into the bottom area. and makethem climb the lagger to the next higher level. let them take the cheese and bacon and some water. that should effectively trap them weher they can;t do any

Dukejr01: then we reclose the concealed door. lock the gate. Corren will take a look round the chamber, open a few crates.
Docportal: Grunt at his plan. but do as I am told.
Dukejr01: "This way they can't get loose and attack us from the rear
Missiledine: ok, you take the two out and they will climb up as you order, taking the food with them
Dukejr01: let en have the beer if they can carry it.

Docportal: "I suggest we move table as we move on down the line. I will watch the path way

Missiledine: most of the contents are food, beer, wine, salted meat, dried fruits, biscuits, cheese, sausage... enough to feed a hundred men. Some of the crates have weapons.. arrows, spears, javelins, etc
Dukejr01: "Hmmmm....."
Dukejr01: corren munches absently while he searches.
Dukejr01: "Everyone grab a bite to eat. may not get the chance later.
Docportal: "Bring me some out here one of you. Please"
Missiledine: some of the crates have strange substances, powders, salts, things you can't identify. Dawn says that they seem to be Alchemical ingredients, but she doesn't know what for
Dukejr01: Corren will grab some food for Vance.
Missiledine: Long brings you some food

Dukejr01: k. anythign hidden under barrels and such?
