<Missiledine> at the moment there is a lull in the action... They have lost one PC and his replacement character is being brought in as a prisoner of the brigands, he has yet to be rescued. One PC is at -7 HT and out cold...

<Missiledine> hanging on by the skin of their teeth
<Missiledine> the easiest way to bring you in is the same way I am restoring Doc to play, as a prisoner to be released

<Missiledine> Okay... When we closed Rolb was on the balcony above the main area while Corren and Dawn were on the lower level as Corren worked on chopping a hole

<Missiledine> The opening you made did not allow the door to open, so you blocked the hole with an overturned table and started again at a higher spot
<dukejr> right. Corren continues to chop the door where the last bolt is.
<Missiledine> After a dozen or so blows, you can see the door sag a bit and hear the bolt hit the floor on the otherside with a clang

<Missiledine> yes... Before the door opens, Rolb will come down the steps and tell Dawn to, "Go on up lass, I'll back Corren fer a wee bit." The change takes place just before the door gives

<Missiledine> Rolb has his sword out, put the bow away
<dukejr> Corren pulls the table back so its only blocking one side. then he goes to the other side and pulls the door open. he is using hsi sword, slinging his axe

<Missiledine> The door opens slowly, the room beyond is dark
<dukejr> Corren gets a torch. lights it in the fireplace.
<Missiledine> You can see, directly opposite the double doors, another door, presumably the one to the outside... The room is about twenty feet deep and extends
<Missiledine> to either side of the double doors... There is some furniture, table, chairs... Torch light glints off silver and crystal
<dukejr> Corren edges up to the room, shield up. carefully moves first to the left and tries to see what is on the right side of the door. then repeats the other direction.
<dukejr> <need a grimsmere!>
<Missiledine> There is more furniture to the right, looks like a writing table, chairs... and something charging you!
<dukejr> step and ready. block/swing.
<Missiledine> A cloaked and hooded figure with sword and shield is coming at you... Through the gaps of the cloak you can see a breast plate, greaves and vambrace.. If this is a zombie like the others, he is better equipped
<dukejr> hmmmm....
<dukejr> is it moving faster?
<Missiledine> It seems...nimbler
<dukejr> right. block/swing. if Rolb can't get in. Corren takes a step back
<Missiledine> The hood falls back to show a closed great helm... it is hard to judge in this light, but that eerie phospherescent glow that is seen around the eyes of some of the undead, may be present behind the helm
<dukejr> okay. no exposed flesh at all?

<Missiledine> He misses his attack, but blocks your with his shield
<Missiledine> Rolb moves around to try and get to his weapon side

<dukejr> corren wants to let Rolb in , but doesn't want to let this thing get manuever room, especially if there is another of them.
<Missiledine> Funny you should think that... You can see a second one, almost identical to the first, coming from the other side of the door
<Missiledine> Rolb will switch his attention to that one
<dukejr> crap. only one side of the door is open, will it be be able to engage?
<Missiledine> the other door is no longer secured, it simply pushes it away

<Missiledine> Rolb moves to attack the second and you hear the clash of steel... But your attention is fixed on the one in front of you
<Missiledine> You attack first... it is nimbler and quicker then the others, but still not as quick as you

<Missiledine> You attack... gatting past its guard, but the blade is turned on it's armor... It attacks in return, chopping at you... You take it on your shield... The thing is strong! Maybe stronger then the others

<Missiledine> You hit its weapon arm again... this time with a solid blow... The thing retains its grip, but the arm seems to be weakened... It doesn't ready the weapon as quickly, nor does it counter attack

<Missiledine> Your attack misses, you then block his, barely... The thing's right arm seems to be useless, at least it makes no effort to use it

<Missiledine> His attacks with the offhand are still strong, but perhaps a tad less sure
<Missiledine> Beyond your opponent you see Rolb and his creature pressed close together... Rolb has dropped his shield and is stabbing the thing in the abdomen with a dagger while pressing sword to sword... You can see blood streaming

<Missiledine> He parries your next attack, but misses his counter

<Missiledine> Your next attack connects heavily with the Undead's thighs... The thing is staggerd from the blow and misses its attack completely... It seems to be moving slower now, its right leg seems a bit lame
<dukejr> All out attack, two attacks. no special hit location
<Missiledine> The next round of combat... You get two solid hits, it fails to parry or dodge and it stumbles backwards, crashing into Rolb and his opponent, all three go sprawling to the floor!
<dukejr> Corren leaps to Rolbs aid he drops his swordand tries to sieze the undead warriors weapon arm before he can use it
<Missiledine> Rolb is rolling clear, lashing out at his opponent as he does
<dukejr> oh, nevermind.
<dukejr> in that case.....
<Missiledine> Your opponent is no longer moving and Rolb's is tangled in the dead one's limbs for a moment
<dukejr> Corren moves to attack the other one. 2 attacks
<Missiledine> Rolb staggers to his feet, brings his sword arching around in an overhand blow to the struggling warrior's head.. Combined with your attacks, the now shattered corpse lays still
<dukejr> Corren gets out a bandage for rolb.
<Missiledine> "Bloody 'ell!" Rolb sighs, "Gettin too old fer this!" He rights a stool and sits down
<dukejr> Corren applies first aid under rolb's direction, since he is better at it.
<Missiledine> You hear a steady scratching and clawing at the door to the lower level... The Ghouls are working hard to get through
<Missiledine> The cut though ugly, is superficial... He will be allright shortly
<dukejr> "I will check out this room here, then we better take care of that lot down there."
<dukejr> Corren takes shield/sword and looks in the room.
<Missiledine> "They must smell blood." Rolb says, nodding to the barred door

<dukejr> "Maybe we should give them some, if they fall on a fresh corpse, that might give us advantage."
<Missiledine> The room is twenty feet deep with the outer door opposite the double doors. To your right is the writing table and an upright armoire. The room is about twelve feet in that direction. To the left, about eight feet, is
<dukejr> Corren looks i nthe room first. He expects those two fellows that scarpered off are in there.
<Missiledine> another door. On either side is a sideboard and cabinet. There is no one present... The dining table in the center is set for one, with fine porceline, silver and crystal.. There is no food out though

<dukejr> "Maybe something useful in it. like healing grass."
<Missiledine> Two good blows split the door.. You see clothing, all fine cloth and quality work, and a small leather covered case, about 2' long, 1' wide and 10" deep
<dukejr> Corren takes out hte case and puts it on the table. he opens it.
<Missiledine> It too is locked... The brass work is very fine
<dukejr> "Later. should we take care of yon ghouls?"
<Missiledine> "Aye, lets get it over with." Rolb looks at the other door. "What about that one?"
<dukejr> "Lets take a look, thought it led outside"
<dukejr> "Corren goes over to it.

<Missiledine> There is a door betyween the sideboard and cabinet that Rolb is referring to
<dukejr> oh. didn't remember that one.
<dukejr> okay. lets open it up. stay off to the side. shield up.
<Missiledine> It opens towards you, it is not locked As the door swings past th
<dukejr> okay. open it and keep door between me and what is inside

<Missiledine> you hear a 'Snap' and the twang of a crossbow... The bolt comes streaking out the open door and shatters against the far wall
<dukejr> corren puts the helm on the end of his sword. after he open the door, he will stick the helm around the edge at head height

<Missiledine> you feel some resistence and hear the sound of something crash to the floor. There is cord tied to the inside of the door, running to a cross bow that has been lashed to a chair.. That is what
<dukejr> corren crouches to the left and looks ariound the door to the right. I assume the rolb is doing the same for the other side

<Missiledine> the room behyond is a bed room... There is a double bed with feather mattress, ornate four poster
<dukejr> Corren will 'cut the pie' as he moves into the room,
<Missiledine> ornate four poster, double bed, a night stand and small table and chairs. The room is draped in thick curtains
<dukejr> any hiding places aside from under the bed?

<dukejr> okay. are there any more bolts beside the crossbow oon the floor?

<dukejr> nothing for it. Corren goes over to the drapes and prods them with his sword.
<Missiledine> 'Tink!' Wall behind them the whole room is draped thius
<dukejr> when he is satisfid that there is no one within 3 feet of the edge, he seizes that end of the drapes and pulls,
<Missiledine> It seems to be nailed to the ceiling edge... but 'as it flaps a bit you catch a glimpse of a door in the far corner ;
<dukejr> okay, frisk the drapes a bit and go over to the door
<Missiledine> nothing behind the curtain... would you like to try door number 2?

<Missiledine> It is a w narrow wood door with a key lock a nd a bolt on this side. TIt is NO ‹ T locked

<dukejr> "Whatcha think? I am thinking take care of the Ghouls. Lock this one.
<Missiledine> "Sounds lovely."
<dukejr> Corren closes and locks the door.
<Missiledine> Rolb leads t I he way back to the other cellar door

<dukejr> he swings his sword a bit under the bed so his ankles aren't hackekd at

<dukejr> after pushing the bed. corren joins rolb. we shouls set the table up to act as a barricade to keeo the ghouls from advancin.
they will be trying to get at US more than we at them.

<dukejr> "Could be our missing brigands run afoul of the ghouls." z Rolb suggests

As you listen you hear a scraping, digging sound Corren starts advancing down the stairs.
The cries for help are clearly audible now... "They're digging under the door! Help! Help us!"
<dukejr> Corren advances down the stairs

<Missiledine> As the lower room is illuminated, the digging stops and you see the two ghouls come out of the recess where the door you bolted is located.
They are dirty and covered with fresh dirt and mud, but do not seem particularlty stressed
Rolb is behind you, you stay on
<dukejr> "Hello boys. Care to play?"
<Missiledine> the steps or get off? They snarl and the lead one hurls itself at you as you step away from the stairway
<dukejr> Get off stairs.
<dukejr> Corren will set himself att he foot.

<Missiledine> You catch it on your shield, much as you did last time, and like last time it curls its claws around the edge of the shield and hangs on with one hand while
trying to slash at you with the claws of the other and rake you belly with it's clawed feet
Rolb steps off the stairs to intercept trhe he second, which would have leaped at you from the side if he hadn't attacked it

The weight of the ghoul

not quick... You must either dodge or parry, your shield is occupied at the moment, it is not letting go of the shield

<The problem with ICQ is trying to change something you typed

<Missiledine> Out of the corner of your eye you see that Rolb has "his on the ground and is hacking away at its thrashing form
Again you hack at the thing ... again you hit.. It is making no effort to avoid your attacks
Instead it puts all its energy into trying to

this time your armor stops it, but the leather is badly cut... The thing's claws are like razors!
Suddenly Rolb is beside i friont of you, h acking at the

<Missiledine> ghouls exposed back as i t clings to your shield %... You hit it at almost the same time and it releases

<Missiledine> its grip on the s 9hield, twisting like a snake to slash at Rolb
Rolb blocks it.... backing up a bit to draw it forward
<dukejr> Corren will all out attack if it has turned to Rolb. two attacks
<Missiledine> your first attack is a clean miss, but the second slices through its back, apparantly severing something, because the ghoul falls forward
<dukejr> better idea. one all out attack at 4 to hit to sever its head.
<Missiledine> with its legs seemingly useless... Nevertheless it crawls ± towards Rolb snapping

<dukejr> Corren finishes his bandage and then goes to to the door. He pulls the bolt and waits a moment
<Missiledine> Nothing happens Beyond is a narrow, tunnel cut through the rock
<dukejr> Corren throws it open nd backs up, ready
<Missiledine> There are a number of eqaulaly narrow branches leading off in either direction...
<dukejr> Corren cautiously steps in.
