Girvan Adventure X
ElwingFD has entered the room.
Missiledine: We are all here!
ElwingFD: I almost fell asleep at work last wednesday
Missiledine: Lets get the ball rolling....
Missiledine: We'll have to try harder tonight!
ElwingFD: try harder to kill us? :-)
Missiledine: When we broke off, you had crawled out of the burning tower through the middens and snuck down over
Missiledine: the hill to your camp
Missiledine: you can see a body of Royal troops have apparently rounded up the brigands
Missiledine: "What are we waiting for?" The boy asks. "Lets call the soldiers!"
ElwingFD: I still want to know why they're here, and also what deal the merchant or one of his leutenants had..
ElwingFD: going
Missiledine: Rolb looks uncertain
Missiledine: "I dunno ken.." He says. "I be wonderin why the boys in blue came along just now. too."
ElwingFD: "boy, do you know anything about one of your fathers men maybe being involved in your kidnapping?
Missiledine: The lad shakes his head, "No!"
Missiledine: Corren: Your still in the tree?
Missiledine: watching events?
ElwingFD: "do you know for what reason you were kidnapped?"
Missiledine: "Money I would assume."
Dukejr01: whoa! I didn;'t know we were here
Missiledine: <Thought you heard the bell!>
Dukejr01: nope. sorry
Dukejr01: yeah. Corren is in teh tree.
Dukejr01: Corrren observes for a whil.
ElwingFD: "something is very suspicious and I don't like it"
Dukejr01: What does Corren see?
Dukejr01: <hi, ty. btw>
ElwingFD: yo
Missiledine: you see that the royal ytroops seem unusually friendly with the brigands. They are laughing and
Missiledine: passing drinks etc
Missiledine: something isn't right here
Dukejr01: Corren climbs down. "The roayl troops seem to be fairly friend;y with the pirates."
Dukejr01: "Lets get the hell out of here."
ElwingFD: "maybe they are just dressed as royal troops
ElwingFD: agreed"
Missiledine: Rolb nods in agreement
Missiledine: which way are you going?
ElwingFD: "we go back to town"
Dukejr01: Corren offers his hand to the boy. "My name is Corren. I think the best thing is to get to town.
Missiledine: ok... back to Girvan
Dukejr01: "We can all get a hot bath a good meal and some beer. last time we were in Girvan, your father was
Dukejr01: there. allright?"
Missiledine: He nods, "uh, yeah. I guess."
Missiledine: the boy's name is Paldar
Dukejr01: "WE should hurry. they will start looking for us soon, I expect. whenthey realize we are not inthe
Dukejr01: celler"
Dukejr01: Corrn starts out
Missiledine: you start back to the west, towards the end of the penninsula and out of the forest
Dukejr01: Corren takes point.
Dukejr01: Can we cover our tracks?
Missiledine: assuming no major problems, you will be back in Girvan shortly after dark
Missiledine: can always try
Dukejr01: Once we hit the road. Corren says: "Should we inform the magistrate of what we saw?"
Missiledine: <You have a ways to go before you hit the road!:-D>
ElwingFD: "not sure, let's see what things look like back in town"
Dukejr01: I was assuming no problems... :-)
Missiledine: Rolb will put the boy on his horse and then follow behind, watching the back trail
Dukejr01: okay. corren will trust him to cover any tracks if he feels it appropo
Missiledine: the undergrowth here is fairly sparse, allowing you to make good time, but it leaves you
Missiledine: feeling exposed
Missiledine: you have been moving for about an hour when Rolb gives a quiet whistle and jogs up to you,
Dukejr01: corren stops.
Dukejr01: and crouchs.
Missiledine: pointing backwards with his thumb
Missiledine: Without a word Rolb grabs the boy, hauls him off the horse, grabs the horse's bridle and fore leg and
Dukejr01: Corren looks for a place to hide
Missiledine: begins forcing it to the ground. "Get down." He hisses
Dukejr01: Hide away
ElwingFD: I drop down too
Missiledine: it takes him a bit, but a few moments later he has the horse on the gropund and is lying across it's
Missiledine: head so it can't get up
Dukejr01: make sure the kid is hidden too
Missiledine: A few minutes later you hear the sound of horses galloping
Missiledine: you can see, further up the slope to your right, a group of maybe ten blue cloaked horsemen, led by a
Missiledine: rider that seems to be all in black
Dukejr01: Corren frowns.
Missiledine: they are headed west in a hurry, but they are looking about as they go
ElwingFD: is that the way to town?
Missiledine: after they have gone from sight and sound, Rolb lets the horse stand
Missiledine: yes
Dukejr01: Corren shakes his head. "This is not good. What was that about? are there some Royal troops in league
Dukejr01: witht eh pirates?"
Missiledine: <GM note: Blue Cloaks and tunics are standard issue of the Royal Army>
Dukejr01: Maybe we should go to Drunmore nd havea chat with the Magistrate.
ElwingFD: "I'm not liking this one bit, not one bit."
Missiledine: Rolb says, "Either way, we still hafta go west to get outta this bloody wood."
Dukejr01: How far to Drunmore/
Dukejr01: ?
Missiledine: after you get out of the wood, maybe 15 miles due south on the Girvan - Drunmore Road
ElwingFD: were they headed that way?
Missiledine: maybe a bit less depending on where you come out
Missiledine: yes
Missiledine: the Girvan-drunmore road runs north to south just after you exit the western edge of the forest
ElwingFD: "alright, we need to find out what's going on, and before they get to Drunmore. What say I fly there
Dukejr01: "I think we should make for Drumore. I mislike this. I suspect that there is something deeper here.
ElwingFD: and try to find out before you guys come in?"
ElwingFD: "they will beat us there"
Dukejr01: "could you scout for those riders so we can avoid them?"
ElwingFD: "they are in gallop, they will be there before us, I'm afraid"
Dukejr01: "Betcha they got to Girvan, or maybe try to prevent us from getting to Girvan"
ElwingFD: yep
Dukejr01: Which is why we make for Drunmore
Missiledine: Rolb says, "What about that bugger they sent out earlier? What was that about? And remember, they
Missiledine: expected to leave tonight. "
Dukejr01: "Eitehr those are NOT Royal troops or we have corruption in their ranks."
ElwingFD: remind me, who said that?
Missiledine: The boy says, "The Hunchback said that my father was going to pay my ransom today."
Missiledine: <The two guys you killed were talking before you did them>
Dukejr01: "I don;t understand it. We would all be safer in a town."
ElwingFD: "but your father sent several search parties out to look for you...why?"
Dukejr01: <yeah. but commandoes don;'t have time to stop and chat."
Missiledine: Rolb says, "I'd wager that those lads were going to co;;ect the ransom, before daddy finds out that
Missiledine: the boy is free or dead."
ElwingFD: ok, here's my plan....tell me if it works for you guys....I fly to town and find out what's going on
Dukejr01: Corren nods. "Lets follow them?"
ElwingFD: before that posse arives...you guys travel there but hide in the area where our farm friends
ElwingFD: were beaten up and I will meet you with news
Dukejr01: Maybe you should fly to warn the boy's father
ElwingFD: hows that?
ElwingFD: "if he is in town, I can talk to him:
Missiledine: Rolb shrugs, "I suppose. That might work. Tell the father if you can."
ElwingFD: are we all in agreement?
Missiledine: "How fast can you get there?"
Dukejr01: he has 15 men. enough to handle the troops you saw. I think you should try to locate the father
Missiledine: "Rolb nods in agreement
ElwingFD: <as fast as the gm allows, hawk flight>
Missiledine: ok, where exactly are you headed?
ElwingFD: to Drunmore, the inn where the merchant was I guess, depending on what I see from above
Dukejr01: <the troops we saw are likely heading directly to the father.
Missiledine: he was in Girvan
ElwingFD: I thought the town was Drunmore and the merchant was Girvan :-)
Missiledine: no
ElwingFD: so what is Drunmore?
Missiledine: a big city to the south
ElwingFD: oh...ok Girvan is where we all met right?
Missiledine: right
ElwingFD: ok then I fly there
ElwingFD: that is where the troops were heading too?
Missiledine: you don't know for sure
ElwingFD: but that direction?
Missiledine: due west is a north to south road. Girvan is to the north. Drunmore is south.
Missiledine: once they reach that road, you have no idea
ElwingFD: ok Girvan
Missiledine: ok
ElwingFD: be quick to our meeting place
Missiledine: you cast Hawk Flight, rise through the trees and head west and a bit north... a couple minutes into
Missiledine: the flight you see movement down below, through the trees
Missiledine: it is the blue cloaked riders and the black cloaked leader
Missiledine: they are still headed west
ElwingFD: ok, but arn't I heading north
Missiledine: what?
ElwingFD: isn't Girvan north?
Missiledine: you are heading west and a bit north
Missiledine: north west
ElwingFD: ok so I shouldn't have seen the riders if they are heading due west
Missiledine: no... they only passed by you a few minutes ago
Missiledine: the riders are now well to your rear as you continue your flight
ElwingFD: ok
Missiledine: you continue skimming along, eating up the miles to Girvan... ahead, in the distance, you can see the
Missiledine: edge of the forest
ElwingFD: ok do I see anything down there?
Missiledine: how many times will you recast this?
ElwingFD: remind me how long it lasts
Missiledine: 1 minute
ElwingFD: how long have I been up?
Missiledine: 8 to cast 4 to maintain
Missiledine: guess
ElwingFD: I figured at that rate of speed it would be quick
Missiledine: you can keep recasting it
ElwingFD: so how long have I been up?
ElwingFD: more than 5 minutes?
Missiledine: you will be about to start your fifth recast in a few seconds
ElwingFD: guess I'll land, I thought it was much closer than that
Missiledine: you have covered almost 7 miles of the trip back
ElwingFD: I'll land near the edge of the forest, did I see any movement?
Missiledine: no movement in the area, but you could see, before you landed, some traffic on the road
ElwingFD: how far am I away from the area where I told Corren and Rolb to meet me?
Missiledine: your about two miles to the south of it and maybe a mile from the road
Dukejr01: a mile from the road?
ElwingFD: which road /
Missiledine: there is only one
Dukejr01: I thought the ambush site was on the road
Missiledine: the original one was,, where the boy was grabbed
Dukejr01: <I think Ty said he would meet us where the other two party members were beaten up>
Missiledine: Ferric is south of that point on the road
Dukejr01: <which was where the boy was originally kidnapped>
Missiledine: <Oh, the GM thought you were talking about where you dealt with the other group>
ElwingFD: so it's a two mile trip south to the place where the boy was nabbed?
Dukejr01: <Oh! I can see that. but nope>
ElwingFD: <no, where our two GA farm boys were beaten>
Missiledine: <Gotcha ya!>
Missiledine: your about four miles from the ambush site
Dukejr01: <"untolled" things were done to them...>
ElwingFD: ok, I thought you said two miles
Missiledine: to the other place, where I thought you were going
ElwingFD: no I wanted to happen by the ambush site
Missiledine: I understand that now. Do you want to recast the spell? The 'other place' was 2 miles from the ambush
Missiledine: site
ElwingFD: well when you said edge of the forest, I was hopeing for that to be the area...no, if I recast that,
ElwingFD: Im finished....literally
Missiledine: you are on the ground. What do you do now?
ElwingFD: guess I'm going to where I think the meeting site is
Missiledine: Corren: You and Rolb continue on your way
Missiledine: ok, you set off through the woods, till you reach the road and the ambush site
ElwingFD: how much time to I figure it will take the riders to take?
Dukejr01: the ambush site is not that far from Girvan.
Missiledine: you see traffic on the road, but it looks to be normal merchant and farmer type stuff
Missiledine: correct, it is only a few miles south of the town
ElwingFD: is it on my way to town?
Missiledine: for the riders to reach where?
ElwingFD: the ambush site
Missiledine: it's on the road to town
Missiledine: hard to say how long. depends if the rest the horses, but if they come straight through, maybe 1 hour
ElwingFD: and how long for me to walk there?
Missiledine: where Tyler? The ambush site or the town of Girvan?
Missiledine: the horseman are less than 2 hours from Girvan if they gallop straight through
Missiledine: for you to walk to the ambush site from where you landed, maybe an hour. All the way to town, another
Missiledine: hour and a half on that
ElwingFD: remind me next time to ask this all up front before taking off to fly
Missiledine: you have about a 6 mile head start on the horses, but they are moving faster than you can walking
ElwingFD: we need to end this soon....brb
ElwingFD: dont you just hate when your wife if afraid of millipedes and refuses to let you alone until you kill
ElwingFD: it?\
Missiledine: lol
Dukejr01: fun with legged critters.
Missiledine: multi legged
ElwingFD: ok, so I've gained no advantage here, well I guess I jog to the ambush site and hope theyre there,
ElwingFD: else I get my ass to town
Missiledine: ok, Ferric. After scrambling through the woods, for what seems like forever, you see the ambush site
Dukejr01: can do both. the ambush site is on the way to town
ElwingFD: anyway, I'm suffering from my own exhaustion here, so we should end it, unless the merchant happens
ElwingFD: to be here
Missiledine: the road appears empty. You can't see anyone around as you exit the wood
Missiledine: Are you sticking around or heading on down the road to town?
ElwingFD: a quick check for them in this area..
Dukejr01: <what is the merchant's name again?>
Missiledine: Herdon Junuk
Dukejr01: <thanks>
Missiledine: no sign of any horses or men visible from the woods. There are a lot of big boulders, but it would be
Missiledine: impossible to hide a large number like you saw earliier
ElwingFD: I make a quick call out to him if no answer I will hustle to town
Missiledine: when you call out, you think you see movement on top of one of the big boulders. But you can't be sur
Missiledine: sure
ElwingFD: "I am one of the men searching for your son, and I have news"
Missiledine: A voice calls back, "What news?"
ElwingFD: "it is for Herdon Junuk only"
Missiledine: "I am his man, here to meet with the brigands. I am up on the boulder. Come over here so we are not s
Missiledine: ahouting for all the world to hear."
ElwingFD: I go there
Missiledine: A man raises his head and peers about carefully, "What news?" He asks
ElwingFD: "where is your master?"
Missiledine: "He will arrive later, with the ransom."
Missiledine: "Are you of the brigands?"
ElwingFD: "how much later, the brigands will be here in minutes...do you have enough men to hold off the ten
ElwingFD: that are coming?
ElwingFD: no, I am one of the men sent out to search, you may have seen my face at the inn a couple nights back
Missiledine: "If need be. Is the boy with them?"
ElwingFD: "I suspect some treachery afoot, that is why I must report back to your master"
Missiledine: "He will be here soon. What of the boy?"
ElwingFD: do I recognize this man from the inn?
ElwingFD: "the boy is alive and well"
Missiledine: no, he is not familiar to you
Missiledine: "Is he safe then?"
Missiledine: "dO THE BRIGANDS STILL HOLD HIM?"
Missiledine: <sorry>
ElwingFD: "I will convey all know to your lord"
ElwingFD: all I know
Missiledine: "I must know if he is still held!"
ElwingFD: "and I must know where your lord is"
Missiledine: "He will be coming down the road from Girvan any minute. Is the young Master safe?"
ElwingFD: "you must tell me why I should trust you with that information?"
Missiledine: The man looks back along the road, then says. "Why not tell me?"
ElwingFD: "I will look for him on the road" I walk down
Missiledine: When you move he snaps up with a loaded and cocked crossbow. "Yer not goin anywhere, not till Sharkey
Missiledine: gets a look at ye."
ElwingFD: I start running
Missiledine: "Put yer hands up!"
Missiledine: He shoots
ElwingFD: he misses
Missiledine: <Oh?>
Missiledine: You have Missile Shield on? I wasn't aware of it, and didn't take it into account for your casting
Missiledine: rolls.
ElwingFD: I always put it on while out adventuring
Missiledine: I need to know that
ElwingFD: well, there is lots on info I need to know to, but either this medium makes it too difficult to get
ElwingFD: or I've been too tired to ask
Missiledine: the medium is very friendly for info Tyler.
ElwingFD: I disagree, the amount of info that gets past is difficult to digest in large amounts, we ask tons of
ElwingFD: little questions when we game face to face and get a better lay of the land...I could have figured ou
ElwingFD: out how much mana I was using and how far it was away...but I didn't ask that a head of time...my fau
ElwingFD: fault
Missiledine: the information given is a permenant record. If you don't understand then scroll back and re read it
ElwingFD: not easy to do during the game, no index or reference except remembering when it occured, plus there
ElwingFD: are multiple sessions that have to be looked up
ElwingFD: I'm not blaming you, I already said its my fault, and the medium's
Missiledine: I don't know how to make it any easier Ty
ElwingFD: can't be, not without dragging it out longer than it already is, but when we start talking things out
ElwingFD: time marches on
Missiledine: We'll wrap it up here tonight
ElwingFD: gameplay that is
ElwingFD: ok then, night all
Dukejr01: night
Missiledine: even if we were playing face to face Ty, I need to be reminded that you have spells running from week
Missiledine: to week
Missiledine: night
ElwingFD: the missile shild has nothing to do with this
Dukejr01 has left the room.
ElwingFD: and the characters need to be reminded of things week to week too, but I have a habit of remembering
ElwingFD: to ask them after I've done something, like fly back
Missiledine: Well Ty, I'm sorry you find this medium a problem. I have had a fair amount of success with it
ElwingFD: it is difficult to play without feeling that every conversation you have is ticking away time, plus a
ElwingFD: getting access to basic info like distances, I dont know, it just makes it different to play
Missiledine: the same should be true in a face to face session. You stand talking, things happen
ElwingFD: yes, but they go quicker.. human nature would dictate that if it takes me 10 sec to ask a question in
ElwingFD: person and 5 minutes on IM, then people subconsciencely think more time has lapsed gametime
Missiledine: in every face to face game I have played or GM'd the players sit around yacking about the strategy of
Missiledine: a 1 sec combat action for at least 10 minutes
ElwingFD: I guess what Im saying is you dont get that granularity in IM
ElwingFD: I dont know, I feel more rushed
ElwingFD: making it less likely to ask all the pertinant questions
Missiledine: Well, there is more of a time constraint when there is only two or three hours to play in
ElwingFD: true, plus I did say that I'm exhausted and not playing up to my standards, you have to remember that
ElwingFD: too
Missiledine: but the same would be true in a face to face game of the same length
ElwingFD: maybe
Missiledine: ok... lets pick it up next week.
Missiledine: Go to bed and get some rest
ElwingFD: that will be the last for a while
ElwingFD: yep
Missiledine: We'll try and finish this game next Tues
ElwingFD: and awake at 6am...I'll call you to let you know I'm up :-)
Missiledine: I'm usually awake then
ElwingFD: damn vampires
Missiledine: lol
ElwingFD: night, my friend
