Turek nods, "We should reach Alfan before
sundown, there are
a couple nice inns there, suitable for the
Missus and the boy."
Amanda smiles a bit tightly at that.
(Alfan is a village that lies a bit less than
halfway between
Drunmore and Nygg. It is most famous for its
honey and its mead. There
is a species of giant honeybee that makes its
homes in caves found near
Alfan, that make the finest honey in all the
Kingdom. It is customary, when
drinking Alfan Mead, to salute or toast, 'The
Queen' in honor of the hive that made
such divine nectar.. Alfan also has the largest
population of Halflings
outside of Dwarfdale (the surface town above
the underground Dwarven
city in Ferramentium.) The Halflings have
proven resistant to the
bee stings and their small size is a positive
advantage in harvesting honey.)
Your meal arrives and proves to be quite
good. Soon enough you are
ready to move on. Amanda will excuse herself
for a few minutes before
leaving.
(Is there anything you want to do?)

Soon everyone is ready and shortly thereafter
you are back on
the road. There is still a lot of caravan traffic
on the roads
hereabout. Mostly desert traders returning
from the heartlands of the Kingdom,
making their way back to Nygg and then
across the desert to whereever they
call home. You see many foriegn faces and
clothing in the men of
the caravans that you pass on the road (the
four of you with your
one pack animal are making better time than
the heavily encumbered
caravans.)
The men of the desert speak amongst
themselves in their own languages
and at one point they all laugh and you see
Amanda blush furiously
as you ride past one group.

Karl speaks to Turek. "I have heard that in
some areas it is
safer to form up with a larger caravan. Do you
think it would be in our
interest to do so on this journey?"
When they cause Amanda to blush he will
quietly ride up to her.
"What did they say?"

Turek shakes his head, "No sir, not for this
trip. Traveling from
Drunmore to Nygg is safe enough."
Amanda seems a bit reluctant to talk near the
boy, but answers in
a whisper, "They were, uhm, speculating on
my, err, capacity for, uhm, you
know... And about what I'd bring on the block."

Karl nods. "Is that what passes for flirting
where we are headed, or
does that sound as insulting as I think it
does?"

Amanda smiles a bit at that and says,
"Contrary to what a lot of
people seem to think, Nygg is in Velitrium, not
the desert. The people of Nygg are
every bit as civilized as those of Drunmore or
even The City." (The term, 'The
City' is generally used when referring to the
city of Velitrium, the capitol.)
"There are a lot of desert people visiting Nygg
at any given moment though."
She admits. "In almost all the desert cultures
women are property,
amongst some of the desert folk, commenting
on another man's woman is a deadly insult,
in other cities it is a compliment. I don't know
where they were from and I
doubt they expected us to understand them.
From their tone of voice it was a
conversation they had, had many times about
the women of Velitrium."

"Then maybe we should assume for the sake
of civility that where
they are from its a compliment." Karl smiles.
"After all, you are certainly a
woman worthy of many compliments."

She smiles at that and seems pleased.
The rest of the trip to Alfan passes more or
less uneventfully. There is a
fair amount of traffic going in both
directions, but nothing of note. At last
you top a hill and see the village below. It is
getting on to dusk and lights
are shining in the windows below, giving a
warm glow to an evening that is
already turning cold.
The village gates are still open and will be
for several more hours. You
pass through with a weary nod from the
Watchmen and follow Turek through the
streets to a respectable looking inn called,
appropriately enough, 'The Hive."
Like a hive the common room is a bstle of
activity as you and Amanda
enter, Turek and Ferral are taking care of
the horses. It will be a few minutes
before you are approached by a portly
looking halfling a bit less than four feet
in height. "What may I do for you fine folk?
A meal, a room, or both? I am
Pollit, the owner of the Hive."

Pollit leads you to a table. He is all smiles
and either ignored your gaff, or
it went over his head. "We have several
rooms available for the night, perhaps
you would like to see them before you
dine?"
The crowd here is mostly male, and
Amanda is drawing a fair number of
appreciative, though polite, looks. Most of
the customers look to be merchant
types, travelers rather than locals, and their
guards. What conversations you
pick up on are concerned mostly with
prices, commodities, horses, sheep and
manufactured goods. The air is full with talk
of deals, done and pending,
opportunities, both missed and realized...
From what you can gather the past
year has been good for the merchants,
despite it being a poor harvest, and
everyone is flush and happy.
